Magnetic Rod, Magnetic rod filters(Magnetic Separator) provides an effective means of removing ferrous chips and metal particles from loosely packed, free-flowing materials. They are usually constructed of 304 stainless steel tubes or 316 stainless steel tubes for special domains filled with Ceramic or Rare Earth Magnet. Either round or square shape bars are available for customers’ desiring for special applications.

Application of magnetic rod:

Magnetic rods, magnetic rod filters may apply in medicines, sanitation, textile, machinery, and foodstuffs. The filer will attract iron/steel substances away from liquids, from among grains or powders.

How magnetic filter rod/bar/tube works?

The magnetic filter rod/bar/tube made of a 304 or 316 stainless steel tube, polar plates,end-plugs, and permanent magnets. The higher the surface gauss of the tube, the higher the price. As the permanent magnets being the most expensive parts, we will tell you how unscrupulous companies reduce costs of manufacturing magnetic tubes with high surface gauss.

1,Reducing the volume of magnets

Disadvantage: Uneven tube surface leading to easy fracturing.
Reduced the diameter of magnets as shown in the diagram below：

Magnetic flux density of magnetic filter rods/bars/tubes consist of smaller magnets will not decrease by increasing the diameter of the polar plates, due to magnetic flux density tests being conducted around the circumference of the plates.

However, due to lack of support from the magnets within the tube, the wall of the tube will collapse in time.

Furthermore, as stress can not be distributed evenly and focused only the plates, the tube fractures easily around the plates, rendering the entire tube unusable and in more severe cases, contaminating the materials as well.

2,Using Chipped And Fractured Magnets

Disadvantage: Uneven surface gauss causing loss of effectiveness easily.
Chipped and fractured magnets are rejects.

However, some unscrupulous companies will seal them in tubes regardless, as these defects are indistinguishable from the external appearance and difficult to detect as well.

3,Using “Second Grade Magnets”

Disadvantage : Tubes with uneven magnetic fields and poor consistency .

The so-called ” second grade magnets ” are magnets made by top-tier manufacturers for top-tier buyers . These products are , however , discarded rejects due to various factors . Due to being high performance products still,some unscrupulous companies will purchase them at discounted prices .

However , these ” second grade magnets ” are mostly thin pieces between 3-10mm thick . When observed with a magnetic polar viewer , these defects will present itself as shown in the following diagram :

Furthermore, these “second grade magnets” have inconsistent sources. As such, there is no guarantee of the performance of the next batch purchased, resulting in poor consistency between batches.

4,Reducing the thickness of the stainless steel tube

Disadvantage: Reduced lifespan of magnetic tubes.
SS304 and SS316 stainless steels are commonly used materials used for manufacturing magnetic filter rods/bars/tubes. In the market, the thinnest SS304 tubes are between 0.45-0.50mm. If the tubes get any thinner, the lifespan of the said tubes will be drastically reduced.

Due to having fewer applications and of less comprehensive specifications, the thinnest SS316 tubes are found to be between 0.75-0.80mm. This is also why magneticfilter rods/bars/tubes made of SS316 have lower surface gauss compared to tubes made of SS304.

Companies are permitted to manufacture 0.5mm thick SS316 tubes (MOQ at 500kg) when there is a demand of stability in batches manufactured. However, some unscrupulous companies will manufacture magnetic tubes with only 0.3mm thick tubes, allowing for higher surface gauss using weaker magnets.

The above mentioned methods are how costs of magnetic separations are reduced unscrupulously. Please exercise caution when purchasing magnetic filter rod/bar/tube products.

Strong magnetic bar is a production equipment that guarantees the safety and quality of products. The ceramic industry and the food industry have been widely used and become one of the production equipments. The strong magnetic rod used in the pharmaceutical and food industries is a permanent magnet magnetic rod that does not require a power source.
The basic principle is that when the iron-containing substance passes, it is attracted by strong magnetic force, and the iron-containing substance is firmly adsorbed on the pipe wall to ensure the integrity of the equipment and the safety of the product.

Divided from the structure, there are two kinds of strong magnetic rods, one is the process equipment connected with other production equipment, such as pipe iron remover, mixed iron remover, etc., the structure is relatively simple; one is the whole machine, such as rotary iron remover, Light powder iron remover. In addition, complete machines with composite functions, such as granulation and iron removal machines, screening and iron removal machines, etc., have appeared on the market.

From the technical function, the magnetic bar has a high, medium and low grade. The magnetic rod iron remover for assembling the magnetic rod with the ferrite magnetic material has the function of removing the ferromagnetic metal foreign matter, and the price is low, which is a low grade.

Second, you should choose the grade of the magnetic rod according to the functional requirements. Functional requirements include two aspects – magnetic field strength and removal rate. Export products (such as APIs, food additives) generally require 12000 Gaussian field strength, and the removal rate is related to the number of strong magnetic bars or magnetic plates. The more layers, the higher the removal rate. If you only remove iron debris, you can choose a low-grade iron remover.

Third, According to the shape and fluidity of the material, the magnetic field structure of the iron remover is selected, mainly the magnetic rod and magnetic plate spacing. If the material is very fluid, use a rotating or vibrating magnetic rod.

Fourth, the material flux of the iron remover should be selected according to the production volume.

Fifth, Determine the three-dimensional size of the strong magnetic bar according to the on-site space where the iron remover is installed. Six also consider how the iron separator is connected to other production equipment.
